Pacific Northwest - former home of the world's tallest trees. Hello, I come from Slovenia, Europe. I study forestry and I am particulary interested in remarkable trees in our region. Good bye John. Ulmus glabra, A 62,5 meter Norway spruce is nothing to shake a stick at, and a 75 meter Abies alba? Abies grandis is one of our very tall trees, up to 90 meters in exceptional cases.

Do you have any tree photos from your country you would like to share? I just found an enormous western red cedar at Goldstream Provincial Park that I roughly measured at 72 metres tall!

Goldstream has some beautiful, old trees, including many huge cedars. Thanks for sharing, Samuel. We would be very interested to hear about your further big tree finds. A few hundred metres south of where the Trans-Canada Highway meets Finlayson Arm Road in Goldstream , there is a grove of trees, on the east side of the road, that I have not measured and are about 80 metres tall.

A beautiful black cottonwood in the middle of relatively little Konuckson Park is about cm wide and 42 metres tall. Not many people seem to care about the hardwood giants around here. A grove of black cottonwoods in a seasonal swamp in NE Mount Douglas Park is very pretty-their crowns are truly enormous. But since it is a seasonal swamp, and I was there in the swampy season, I did not get o measure these trees, but got swamped trying to.

Must explore soon Hey Sam, Thanks again for sharing your extensive knowledge about our local trees. I really appreciate the information, which makes me drool for a big tree road trip. So many beautiful places, so little time Hope you are getting out into the old growth, my friend.

Cheers Gregg Koep. It is primarily Douglas Fir It is rarely visited. I am a big tree explorer who has lived on Vancouver Island all my life. This grove has no equal. Imagine a whole valley full of "Red Creek Fir" trees, never touched by humans. Pat, that is very fascinating information! If you have any further information about that tree, or area, I would be happy to hear more! I am collecting as much info I can on my open database project of Douglas fir height records, and so far there us strong circumstantial evidence for Douglas fir in the to feet tall range, and some anecdotal and historic evidence for trees even as high as and feet, but those are still unconfirmed.

What amazes me is the lack of height records in historic lumber publications. Board feet and diameter was often the only interesting detail lumbermen noticed, and height was seldom recorded. Side Note: I was given a short list by an evolutionist during a debate and Redwood trees was on his list, previously it was on my difficulty-list along with rabbits, blue whales, as well as animals with giant in front of their name. Chris L Lesley. I have done some research on Douglas fir trees which were reported in the news and old lumber magazines a century ago that were up to feet tall.

All it takes is some variables to change, like more oxygen, co2, gravitational change, electromagnetic, fog, water etc. I mean the fir trees in Washington were reaching as high as to feet tall in some groves near Vancouver BC, and Mt Baker washington.

I have photos of these giant trees. But in the University of Oregon conducted a new study on douglas fir height limitations and found evidence that they could reach as high as — feet before the hydraulics in the tree fails. An foot tree, can you imagine the sight of something like that.

Saw pictures by joeseph c Bennett. He has discoverd. Discoverd and posted in any comment? I would be very interested to see some co-ordinates so I can check these out for myself. Pictures from old books, would also be proof to corroborate these statements. I imagine there are some valleys in the far western parts of China, Burma, etc.

I would estimate that it would have been larger than the largest redwoods. Who could I contact to get information. The stumps had been ancient when the loggers came, and the many fires had eroded them to basically these huge jagged wooden walls that were interspersed in a defined ring. Enormous old growth sucker trees growing in rings around the stumps were evident.
