Hi, i have an ibm lenovo r laptop, the problem is that it shutsdown after i press the power button, sometimes the powers lasts a couple of seconds and shuts down. Battery is fine, power cable is fine- i tried removing the hdd and optical drives, modem and wifi cards but no luck of getting the laptop work, any idea?

Just connect an external monitor and turn on the laptop. If the laptop appears to be completely dead when you press on the power button, there could be a problem with the power adapter.
Test the power adapter with a voltmeter. LCD assembly. I would try reconnecting or even replacing the memory module first. After that try disconnecting the laptop LCD screen from the motherboard and test your laptop with an external monitor. All i did was shut it down and place on the the floor! My boss having IBM T30 thinkpad, having some problem with operating system. Not installing antivirus and other softwares. Repair operating system with out earsing data which key have to press. Full reinstall which key have to press and what are the things to be done. It does not boot up by first start up the monitor stay dark. Please help me. Just a guess. I have a ibm thinkpad T41 fu my built on speakers do not work I can plug exterior speakers in and they work. Recently, when I switch from AC to battery power unplug the cord with computer running , after a few minutes, the computer freezes and I need to reboot to get it started. Computer also appears to be running slower. The computer ran fine with these batteries for over a year. What happens if you start the laptop from the battery when the AC adapter is unplugged?

That sounds like a problem with the motherboard. Unfortunately, there is not much you can do. The problem is it will not turn on using the power button but if I press the space bar or press down around the red-blue-red buttons it powers up but as soon as I take my hand away it goes off. I have downloaded the Feb IBM Maintenance Manual but, other than it showing the location of the DC jack it provides no guidance as to what procedure I should use for disassembling the laptop. It is specific about most of the internals but the closest reference is the procedure for replacement of the inverter.
